After The
Baths it was on to Bitter End Yacht Club at Gorda Sound on the North Shore of Virgin
Gorda. Virgin Gorda is the second largest island in the BVI with a population of
about 8,000. The island was given this name by Christopher Columbus because as he
approached it for the first time on the horizon it looked like a fat women lying on her
back. We figured poor old Christopher had been out a sea a few days too many but with a
little imagination you could see his point. Vickie took the helm and took us right
in thru the pass and into Gorda Sound. Winds were 20-25 Knots and out of the
Northeast. We got our mooring and proceeded ashore. This was one of the most colorful
venues we had visited. The inside of the yacht club was lined with bergies from all parts
of the world. There were also wooden statues of Zeus and other mythical gods. We walked
the entire facilities and noted they had shower facilities for yachties. This was a good
thing !! They even had cable TV and movies. I was curious if Florida had
decided who the President was. Same old, Same old. The list of things to do went on
forever. You could learn to Windsurf (When you learn to Windsurf here they follow
you around in a dinghy and give instructions and rescue you when fall over) Upon passing
the pool we saw the girls Tim and I rescued from Bomba's Shack. Actually we gave them a
dinghy ride back to their Yacht at Cane Garden Bay that night. I was pretty blitzed that
night and I really didn't remember them. But, they remembered us. It pays to share a
dinghy.
That
evening we ate aboard our Yacht and then proceeded to the shower facilities at Bitter End.
After we felt human again it was on to Saba Rock by Dinghy. A Dinghy is the only way to
get there. It is a rock surrounded by water on all sides. What a beautiful place this was.
It is a mini resort with restaurant and bar and band. Tim and Vickie danced to
Calypso music
while Lucy and I took pictures and drank our favorite drinks.
